Let's Not Forget The Worst Part About Apple ... - Business Insider

Steve Kovach, Business Insider

Apple confirmed today that it's killing the native YouTube app on the iPhone and iPad when iOS 6 launches this fall.

Big deal.?

For one, the YouTube app on the iPhone and iPad is a joke. It's nowhere near as robust as Google's official YouTube app on Android. Plus, you can always play YouTube videos in your iPad or iPhone's browser.

But as we've said before, the biggest problem with iOS 6 and Apple's divorce from Google is the new maps app. Apple decided to ditch Google Maps in iOS 6 and use its own mapping system instead. That would be fine if Apple's solution was as good as Google's.

It's not.

Most notably, iOS 6 maps is missing built-in support for public transportation. If you want to look up train or bus times, you'll have to hope a third-party developer has an app you can install for your city's public transportation network.

It doesn't end there. iOS 6 maps won't have Street View and won't offer turn-by-turn directions on the iPhone 4 and 3GS. (Yes, those 3D maps are cool, but they're not nearly as useful as Street View.)

While we know Google is going to make its own separate YouTube app for the iPhone, we still have no clue it it'll make a maps app. We hope so. And we hope it's good.
